Five Things I Want To See If Star Trek Really Returns to Television

TVG16KirkAfter a long weekend with the family among the Amish, smorgasbords, and outlet shopping of Lancaster, Pennsylvania I plug back in to find some crazy Star Trek news on the Interwebz.  According to io9, Sky News Entertainment is reporting that Star Trek movie co-writer and producer Robert Orci has met with CBS about bringing the franchise back to the small screen.  The rights to Star Trek is a tricky thing, as CBS owns the television rights while Paramount owns the movie distribution side of things.

Over the decades the two media conglomerates have not played nicely with each other, each content making their own money and not necessarily wanting to help the other make any more money.  However, if this is a thing that is actually happening here’s my wish list for the episodic return of Star Trek:

  • Tell stories in the nuTrek Universe, with a new crew on a different ship. What does the nuTrek USS Reliant look like?
  • There is no way Chris Pine is going to stop making movies to film 22-episodes on the Paramount lot … so don’t even dream it.
  • Explore some of the overlooked alien races in the Federation.  Remember the events of Star Trek: Enterprise are canon in the nuTrek Universe. So lets see what the Xindi are up to, and get Jeffrey Combs back in Andorian makeup.
  • No episodes set on the pleasure planet Risa. EVER. AGAIN.
  • Take chances and explore conflict, think Battlestar Galactica (first 2 1/12 seasons at least).  Space is a cold and violent place, as the events of the last two movies have show us.

What do you want to see in a new Star Trek series?  More wacky alien sidekicks? Or maybe even some space exploration? Sound off in the comments below!
